Fort Point and Seaport: Best Neighborhoods For Beer Lovers

By Tara Scott-Johnson, Trulia

Beer lovers rejoice! The artisan craft of brewing beer is booming in Boston once again. Since 1796, Bostonians have crafted and brewed beer. Boston was considered to be one of the premier beer brewing cities in the United States during the 1800s. In line with Boston’s rich history, breweries, beer halls, and beer related events continue to spring up in Boston. The neighborhoods of Fort Point and Seaport are topping the list of the best neighborhoods for beer lovers with these local favorites.

Fort Point

Trillium Brewing Company, located at 369 Congress Street, opened in 2013 in the Fort Point neighborhood of South Boston. Trillium is a New England farmhouse style brewery. Each day, Trillium updates their case and bottle availability on Twitter. Their fresh batches are sold on a first come, first serve basis. Their daily offerings include Pale Ale, Boston Stout, and Imperial Stout – brewed with coffee, vanilla beans, and cardamom. While sampling is not available at the Fort Point location, sampling and full pours are available at their newly opened Canton location. If you’re looking for fresh oysters and unique beers, Row 34, located on 383 Congress Street, is the perfect spot in Fort Point. Row 34’s rotating list of 24 draft lines along with delicious menu items such as the warm buttered lobster roll will satisfy your seafood and beer cravings.

Seaport

Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall is open daily in Boston’s Seaport District at 306 Northern Avenue. In the beer hall, a Harpoon Beer Captain will serve you a pint from the tap and a fresh pretzel to pair with your brewed draft. Brewery tours are available daily and include the sampling of freshly crafted beer for a mere $5 per person. If you’re looking to brew a few cases of your own handcrafted beer, Hopster’s was voted as one of the top 50 businesses in the U.S. & Boston’s Beer Craft Beer experience. The company plans to open a brewery on Sleeper Street in 2017. Craft Beer Cellar, a specialty beer store originally from Belmont, MA, has expanded their locations to Fort Point. Craft Beer Cellar’s expansive collection of 1,000 beers from 350 breweries will be sure to fulfill your hankering for tasty suds. Be sure to check out their new location on Farnsworth Street opening in 2017.

  • Craft Beer Cellar opened on Farnsworth Street in August 2016. So we don’t have to wait until 2017 as stated above.
