For those who may be unaware, one of the best beer festivals in the world is coming to the South End this weekend, starting tomorrow evening! That’s right folks, Copenhagen Beer & Music Festival is back in town and we could not be any more excited!
The line up of brewers, both domestic and foreign, is arguably the best we’ve have seen in the area and it blew many people away last year with its diverse assortment of craft beers, meads and fruit wines.
Below is a list of some of the things we’re most excited about (but keep in mind that a lot of them are session specific, with 3 different sessions taking place. Also please note that the list is subject to change and we do not know if these are bottle or draft pours)
Here’s our list:
- Bottle Logic Brewing: Jam the Radar – Rød Session – Bottle Logic is famous for one thing: their stouts. This delicious raspberry stout is a absolutely delish and the berry finish lingers.
- 3 Floyds: Zombie Dust – All sessions – This heavily hopped, 6.2% pale ale is 3 Floyd’s flagship beer and one that put the famous brewery on the map. If you haven’t had this one, it’s definitely worth checking off your bucketlist
- Abnormal Beer: M3 – Grøn Session – Abnormal might be a fairly recent addition to the San Diego craft beer scene but they’ve established themselves quickly with some big stouts including M3 which is features Mostra coffe, Ghanian Cacao Nibs, Madagascar Vanilla Beans. It packs a punch even though it clocks in at 14.4%
- Kane Brewing: Sunday Brunch – Blå Session – This big, luscious 9.2% stout features Rook Coffee, Cinnamon and Maple Syrup and tastes like… you guessed it… brunch! A delicious treat indeed!
- Other Half Brewing: Green Down to The Socks – All Sessions – Other Half is no stranger to producing a variety (hundreds??!) of different IPAs and this double IPA features a very interesting blend of Motueka, Mosaic, Cascade and experimental South African XJA hops. Expect a nice balance of tropical notes and a bit of bitterness.
- Omnipollo: Lemonade IPA – All Sessions – This beer is actually contract brewed locally at Dorchester Brewing Company and you might have seen it around town in various stores. This delicious, refreshing IPA is infused with big citrus notes from the lemonade which creates a very refreshing, winning combination!
- Funky Buddah: Last Buffalo In The Park – Grøn Session – Coming in at 11.5%, this imperial stout is absolutely delicious! They took their popular Last Snow porter and gave it some extra loving in the form of coconut and fresh roasted coffee before aging it in Bourbon barrels for months to accentuate the vanilla and coconut notes. Luscious, sweet and oh so tasty!
- The Veil: Never Never Aloha Aloha – All Sessions – This Hawaii Punch-inspired gose features red alaea sea salt is conditioned on hundreds of gallons of pineapple, mango, passion fruit, blood orange, Guava, and cherry purée. And guess what? It’s tasty as hell!
- Jester King: Montmorency vs Balaton – Grøn Session – This is one of Texas’ finest wild ales, one that showcases two different kinds of Michigan cherries. Incredibly balanced and oh-so delicious, this is definitely one tasty beer that you cannot pass up on if you’re at the Grøn session.
- Angry Chair: Imperial German Chocolate Coffee Cupcake Stout – Blå Session – This 10.5% imperial stout with cacao, coconut, coffee and vanilla beans is one of the most anticipated beers of the festival. These guys never disappoint with their dessert-inspired stouts.
- Bullfrog Brewery: Le Roar Grrrz Kriek – Rød Sessio – An interesting on the popular, Belgian Kriek style, but from a brewery out in Pennsylvania. This tasty beer is rested on cherries and refermented with Belgian candi sugar making it balanced and well worth the detour.
Keep in mind that the above barely scratches the surface of all the great beers available at this fest and is by no means totally inclusive. There will definitely be some surprises being poured, too! As someone who is lucky enough to attend the vast majority of fests in the area, take some advice from me: if you go to one festival this year, you definitely can’t go wrong with Copenhagen. Fantastic beer and mead that you cannot get easily, if at all, in the Boston area or even in New England. Add music from well-known bands and tons of great food options, as well as being outdoors and easily accessible to public transportation and you know this is not one to miss!

Late last year we had announced that Trillium Brewing‘s Fort Point location, their original place of business, would be moving and expanding within Fort Point in the next year or two with not just revamped, expanded taproom, but also a restaurant. Since that announcement was made, not many details had been released up until today when BostInno was able to unveil a series of exclusive details.
If all goes according to plan, Trillium will open its new, two-story, 16,000-square-foot brewery, taproom, and full-service restaurant at 47 Farnsworth Street by mid to late 2018.

That’s right folks, we now have an address and while it won’t be opening this year, the Tetreaults have said that they intend on making it one of the coolest spots to grab a beer at within Boston. In the interim, people will also be able to enjoy some of their beers (or some wine) at their upcoming beer garden which is to open later this summer on the Greenway. Sean Lawson of Lawson’s Finest Liquids has been a very busy man. Last year, in April, he had announced that they’d be building and opening a brewery out in Waitsfield in Vermont and now he has announced that they’ll be expanding their distribution into Massachusetts.
This bright and sunny news isn’t a huge surprise considering that they had recently dropped a few cases of one of their flagships, Sip of Sunshine, to numerous stores in the Boston area in early December last year. They recently signed a new distribution deal with Atlantic Beverage Distributors and will be leveraging their new facility out in Holliston to facilitate this. They’ll be having regular drops every single month moving forward and Sip of Sunshine will also soon be joined by the award-winning Super Session #2 beer as well.
Hopheads rejoice, relief is coming to the Boston-area shelves soon so keep your eyes peeled for those bright yellow cans.
As far as updates on the construction of their brewery, no updates on that end but stay tuned for more to follow on that later this year.
According to a recent update by Eater Boston it appears that Jamaica Plain’s upcoming Turtle Swamp Brewing should be coming opening in the next few months.
The brewery which was created by some former Harpoon alumni will be the second brewery to hit the Jamaica Plain market following Samuel Adams Brewing settled there over 30 years ago. The Turtle Swamp team has been documenting every step of their process on their very active Instagram page and it appears that they already have their tanks in place and are in the process of finalizing their floors.
No word yet on what they’ll be brewing up or a great opening day but stay tuned for more updates.
